Pete Walker
An influential figure in the 1970s British indie cinema, producer/director Pete Walker tested the limits of film censorship in the UK with a string of gruesome and erotic thrillers.
In HOUSE OF WHIPCORD, a fashion model (Penny Irving) is lured into a private reform school where she is punished for her sexually liberated behavior by a zealous warden (Barbara Markham). Walker's spin on Hitchcock's PSYCHO, SCHIZO, involves a beautiful figure skater (Lynne Frederick) who must protect herself against a homicidal stalker. DIE SCREAMING, MARIANNE stars Susan George (STRAW DOGS) as a woman caught in a nightmarish plot to rob her of an inheritance. Pop singer Jack Jones (best remembered for the Love Boat theme) plays a singer who is haunted by the death of his wife, and led into a confrontation with the killer, in THE COMEBACK.
The four films in this collection—each remastered in HD from the original negatives and accompanied by newly filmed interviews—demonstrate the devious sense of humor and penchant for the grotesque that has earned Walker such an enthusiastic cult following.
